Amendments to mining regulations

Protection for workers in regard to underground diesel exhaust, hoisting, shaft sinking and wheel assemblies will be strengthened starting January 1 2012. The Ministry of Labour has announced amendments to the Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants (Regulation 854).

Regulation 854 is one of a number of regulations made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act in Ontario. These amendments cover several sections of the regulation. They include provisions to reflect the current administration of the mine rescue program, which is now part of Workplace Safety North.
